One could argue that there are many benefits, as well as dangers, to the advancement of AI. The question is, which one has a greater impact on our society from a cultural standpoint? Automation is a construct that has been around since the industrial revolution. It seems key to extending the advancement of society, however it’s also key to keep the traits that make us human in tact.
AI was in essence created by humans to make things quicker, easier, cheaper, safer etc, but it’s also a great threat to the creative industry. I could easily prompt AI to write this article for me, it would have better grammar and probably a better sequence of thought process, but that’s way too easy and a cheap shot. I’m making myself sit here and use my own brain, extra strong coffee, and my conscious life experience to write this article that a lot of people probably won’t read, but it’s cathartic and from the heart. Does AI have a heart?
Back to the main point; if we as a culture and society and a human race, can’t create art, music, “content” to relate to and inspire and heal others, to tell our story and others stories, whats the point? We just want to turn into consumer blobs of flesh for the sake of efficiency and cost cutting? Do we want to have AI exercise for us, have sex for us? Eat for us? That’s some matrix type shit that I personally want to avoid.
I’m all about working smarter not harder. I’m glad the advancement of technologies like this exist (and were created by humans by the way) but we must proceed with caution and not overuse else we will be our own worst enemy and live in a soulless synthetic universe.
